As we celebrate Labor Day, we are reminded of the inherent dignity of work and the American worker. In America, we honor grit. We honor determination. We honor craftsmanship. And we honor the men and women who turn dreams into reality with their own two hands.
Earlier this year, I traveled to Wisconsin to sign the Buy American and Hire American executive order. With that action, we sent a powerful signal to the world that we are going to defend our workers, protect our jobs and put America first. Some years back a hit song filled the summertime airwaves with its chorus of “See You In September.”
It was meant to be a lover’s promise of joyful reunion at summer’s end.
But to use those words in Washington, D.C., right now sounds more like a warning … or even a threat. Continue reading “On Capitol Hill, ‘See You in September’ Is A Refrain Without Romance”
After months of tough campaign rhetoric, the Trump administration touted a steep decline in border-crossing arrests as evidence of a “new era.”
In Arizona, the arrest of an unauthorized immigrant at a Pima County court and a raid on a humanitarian aid camp near Arivaca offered further signs of an immigration crackdown.
But what exactly has changed along Arizona’s border with Mexico? Continue reading “Big talk, little change on Trump’s border”

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley tells the U.N. Security Council that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is “begging for war,” with the latest nuclear test that Pyongyang says is its first fusion device, a much more powerful weapon than it has exploded in the past.
“Enough is enough. War is never something the United States wants. We don’t want it now. But our country’s patience is not unlimited,” Haley told an emergency session of the 15-member Security Council in New York. Continue reading “Haley: North Korea ‘Begging For War’”
Leftist militant groups, Antifa and By Any Means Necessary (BAMN), are led by public school teachers. BAMN organizer, Steve Conn and his wife, who also was a teacher, were fired from a Detroit high school for leading a protest which involved the use of pepper spray. They sued and got their jobs back plus $300,000. Conn was elected president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers in 2015. Last year, 17 different BAMN members ran for elected positions on the Detroit Federation of Teachers. BAMN also ran five candidates for different national leadership positions with the NEA in 2017. Walter Becker once explained Steely Dan’s most affectionate satire, “Deacon Blues.” “The protagonist is not a musician. He just sort of imagines that would be one of the mythic forms of loserdom to which he might aspire. And you know, who’s to say that he’s not right?”
Mythic loserdom was the turf Steely Dan chronicled like no other rock & roll band. They dwelled in Raymond Chandler’s L.A., not Brian Wilson’s or Jackson Browne’s. (Although they shared plenty with Wilson and Browne as well.) And Walter Becker was the more elusive half of this most elusive of duos – the invisible genius of Seventies rock, rarely photographed, never speaking a word in public. Long hair parted in the middle, about two-fifths of a beard, glasses designed to hide behind. If you can find a 1970s photo where this guy isn’t sneering at you, I’ll shake your hand. The Cleveland police union will protest the national anthem in protest of national anthem protesters.
Under the thinking that you can’t protest a flag that doesn’t exist, the union said it will launch an upcoming counter-protest, in which they vow they won’t hold the American flag for a pregame ceremony during the Browns’ season opener Sept. 10. A dozen Browns players, including the first white anthem protester, took a knee during “The Star-Spangled Banner” in an Aug. 21 preseason game. President Donald Trump is expected to announce the end of an Obama-era program that allowed undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children stay and contribute to the country, sources told Fox News late Sunday.
An official announcement to the end of the program will be on Tuesday, the sources said. After the announcement, Congress will have a six-month window to act.
The program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was established in 2012. DACA, as it is usually referred to, protected young immigrants who came to the U.S. as children without legal status. Continue reading “DACA: Trump expected to end ‘Dreamers’ immigration program”

Shocking documents released by real estate developer John Neace detail a secret plan between his company, Neace Ventures, and the City of Charlestown to use eminent domain to bulldoze the homes of Pleasant Ridge residents who refuse to sell to the developer. The documents indicate the city and developer planned to drive down home values in Pleasant Ridge in an effort to make the city’s eminent domain acquisition cost as low as possible.
The documents were obtained by the Institute for Justice as part of its lawsuit challenging the city’s illegal home inspection program. A hearing in the case is set for this Friday, September 1st, at 9 a.m. in Scott County Court.

The Trump administration made false assertions to justify an executive order expanding police forces’ access to military equipment such as tanks and grenade launchers.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced on Monday that President Trump would make defensive gear available to police again by undoing a policy from the Obama administration. Trump then signed an executive order whose title emphasized that branding: “Restoring State, Tribal, and Local Law Enforcement’s Access to Life-Saving Equipment and Resources.” Continue reading “How Jeff Sessions Misrepresented the Trump Administration’s Expansion of Military Supplies for Police”
