A bipartisan proposal in the Senate would give border agents the technology to screen for chemicals at U.S. entry points in an effort to target fentanyl shipments.

Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida proposed the INTERDICT Act earlier this year and are renewing their call for support after a report released Tuesday showed fentanyl deaths are rising. Data from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reveals 81 percent of opioid-related deaths over the first quarter of 2017 involved fentanyl, a painkiller roughly 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine, reports The Herald News.   Continue reading “Border Screenings Proposed For Deadly Painkiller Spreading Death Across US”

Only half of Americans who face depression get help for it, and Google is determined to increase that percentage. As of today, it’s offering a medically validated, anonymous screening questionnaire for clinical depression if you search for information on the condition. This won’t definitively indicate that you’re clinically depressed, to be clear, but it will give you useful information you can take to a doctor. And importantly, the very presence of the questionnaire promises to raise awareness and promote treatment beyond what a basic information card would offer.   Continue reading “Google search uses a medical quiz to help diagnose depression”

On the eve of the new school year the IDF this week destroyed two illegally built modular Palestinian and Beduin schools funded by the European Union.

On Tuesday evening, the Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria took down a building made up in six caravans in the village of Jub al-Dib near Bethlehem. On Sunday demolished a one-room modular kindergarten in the Beduin herding village of Badu al-Baba near the town of Eizariya just outside of Jerusalem. In both cases the Civil Administration said the structures lacked permits.  Continue reading “IDF Destroys Two Illegal EU-Funded Palestinian Schools”

The Interior Ministry has begun the process of revoking the citizenship of 19 Israelis who went to fight for Islamic State.

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), according to Channel 2, provided the Interior Ministry a list of 20 Israelis who had joined the jihadist group, after a law proposed by Interior Minister Arye Deri went into effect this week allowing him to strip Israelis of their citizenship if they are members of foreign terrorist organizations.   Continue reading “19 Israelis to have Citizenship Revoked for Fighting with ISIS”

Earlier this year (June 2017) we reported on one of the most horrific examples of child abuse of a child who was taken into state custody by a “Child Protection” social service agency, and put into the foster care system, that we have ever reported.

We reported how one Arizona child was repeatedly raped as part of a pornographic pedophile ring in foster care, and then placed into a different foster home where 80% of her body was burned with scalding water.   Continue reading “Arizona Child Removed from Loving Family and Placed into Foster Care Where She was Repeatedly Raped – then 80% of Body Burned”

The existence of a swastika emblazoned anchor in a public park is being defended by a Canadian mayor, after an activist tried to erase the symbols.

The local government of Pointe-des-Cascades, Quebec, has denied the artefact in Parc des Ancres promotes hate and explained how the anchor dates back to before World War II.

Discovered 25 years ago by divers in lakes Saint-Louis and Saint-Francois, the large iron piece, which prominently displays a Nazi symbol, is part of a historical display close to a museum, according to the municipality.   Continue reading “Our swastika anchor doesn’t endorse Nazism – Canadian mayor”

BEIRUT (AP) — As Damascus reverses military losses in much of the country’s strategically important west, and foreign states cut support for rebel forces, diplomats from Washington to Riyadh are asking representatives of Syria’s opposition to come to terms with President Bashar Assad’s political survival.

The country’s civil war has crossed the halfway point of its seventh year and Assad and his allies are now in control of Syria’s four largest cities and its Mediterranean coast. With the help of Russian air power and Iranian-sponsored militias, pro-government forces are marching steadily across the energy-rich Homs province to reach the Euphrates River valley.   Continue reading “Syria opposition told to come to terms with Assad’s survival”

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal judge who has compared Texas’ voter ID requirements to a “poll tax” on minorities once again blocked the law Wednesday, rejecting a weakened version backed by the Trump administration and dealing Texas Republicans another court defeat over voting rights.

U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos rejected changes signed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott this summer as not only lacking but also potentially chilling to voters because of new criminal penalties. The new version didn’t expand the list of acceptable photo identifications — meaning gun licenses remained sufficient proof to vote, but not college student IDs.   Continue reading “Federal judge again tosses out Texas voter ID law”

Like many events that end up with a person in handcuffs, my story begins in a bar. I was in Atlanta earlier this month for Netroots Nation, the annual meeting of progressive organizers and writers, when I overheard friends discussing how to resist President Trump’s first visit to Trump Tower. I jumped into the conversation: “Well, you call me, of course.” Twenty minutes later, we had a rough plan that we would unfurl a banner inside Trump Tower the following week. I have been to many protests since the inauguration, and I was proud to do my part.   Continue reading “I was detained for protesting Trump. Here’s what the Secret Service asked me.”
