With Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) at the helm and Democrat-led majorities in the House and Senate, Illinois lawmakers are pushing an “assault weapons” ban and firearm registration requirements.

The Telegraph reports that an “assault weapons” ban–Senate Bill 107–is being sponsored by State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield). Thousands of Central American migrants left a Mexico City shelter Thursday to resume their journey northward toward the U.S. border. The 2,400-strong caravan precedes a much larger group of asylum seekers south of the Mexican border that is heading to America for better economic opportunities.

PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A suspect was taken into custody at 6:35 a.m. Sunday, ending an intense 12-hour standoff that resulted in the shooting death of one Clermont County deputy and the wounding of another at The Green at Royal Oak Apartments.

Raphael Samuel is an anti-natalist, a person who believes that people should abstain from procreation because giving birth to sentient beings without asking for their consent is morally wrong. Samuel doesn’t have anything against children or life itself, he simply believes that a life form which has not given its consent to live should not be brought into the world and thus to be subject to the hardships of life. ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — An officer from the Transportation Security Administration jumped to his death from a balcony inside Florida’s busiest airport Saturday, creating panic that brought some security checkpoints to a halt for hours, grounded flights and caused serious delays.

As the first of two storm systems hit California on Saturday, power was knocked out for tens of thousands, evacuation orders were issued and heavy rain, snow and high winds made driving treacherous.

A Ventura County search-and-rescue team member died in a crash about 7:30 Saturday morning on northbound Interstate 5, ABC 7 reported. Two other team members were injured, one of them critically and the other had minor injuries. Seven other people were involved in the crash that occurred near Pyramid Lake during a heavy rainstorm. Their conditions were unavailable.

Twitter has announced that it took down about 2,000 accounts in Venezuela, most of which it claimed were “engaged in a state-backed influence campaign.” This comes amid accusations of a US-led coup attempt.

In response to reports this week that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) doesn’t plan to impose drinking water limits on two toxic chemicals linked to various forms of cancer and other health issues, 20 senators on Friday sent a letter to acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler imploring him to craft nationwide restrictions.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Thousands of U.S.-bound Central American migrants resumed their northern journey on Thursday, Mexico City officials said, part of a growing group of would-be asylum seekers who say they are fleeing violence and poverty back home.

General Motors will start laying off approximately 4250 salaried employees from Monday morning.

The Detroit News reports that the layoffs form part of a broad restructuring effort and that involuntary separations will continue through February. The carmaker will also cut contract jobs through January, potentially leading to a total of up to 8000 job losses.
