AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Jordan’s king announced Sunday that his country is retaking “full sovereignty” over two pieces of land leased by Israel, reflecting the cool relations between the neighboring countries as they mark the 25th anniversary of their landmark peace deal.

King Abdullah II had said last year that he wouldn’t renew the parts of the 1994 treaty that gave Israel a 25-year lease of the two small areas, Baqura and Ghamr. Even amid mistrust and a looming deadline, Israel was hoping a solution could be found.  Continue reading “Jordan retakes lands leased by Israel in 1994 peace accord”

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran has discovered a new oil field in the country’s south with over 50 billion barrels of crude, its president said Sunday, a find that could boost the country’s proven reserves by a third as it struggles to sell energy abroad over U.S. sanctions.

The announcement by Hassan Rouhani comes as Iran faces crushing American sanctions after the U.S. pulled out of its nuclear deal with world powers last year. Continue reading “Iran’s president: New oil field found with over 50 billion barrels”

Time and again, Israel’s high court upholds human and civil rights abuses committed by the state.

In 2006, the court upheld its targeted assassinations policy, claiming they’re OK when no other choices exist to protect against dangers to national security — that don’t exist it failed to say.   Continue reading “Israel’s Supreme Court — Upholding “Targeted Assassinations” and Torture”

Benjamin Schreiber is very much alive. But that hasn’t stopped him from arguing that he died four years ago.

After the convicted murderer collapsed in his prison cell in 2015, doctors restarted his heart five times. Recovering back at the Iowa State Penitentiary, Schreiber filed a novel legal appeal. Because he died before he was resuscitated, he had technically fulfilled his life sentence, he claimed.  Continue reading “An inmate claimed his life sentence ended when he ‘died’ and was revived. Know County, IN —The average rate of families who experience domestic violence in the country is around 10 percent. However, when we look at police officer families, the 10 percent number quadruples. As the National Center for Women and Policing points out, two studies have found that at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence. It happens so often that it is not even reported on in the media any more unless the case is utterly horrifying — like the one below.  Continue reading “Cop Arrested for Repeatedly Duct Taping Child Down, Beating Her Face With a Wooden Spoon”
