MCALLEN, Tex. (INTELLIHUB) — U.S. Border Patrol agent Chris Cabrera appeared on CNN on Monday where he explained that the border crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border and influx of illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border is so bad that agents have become overwhelmed and could use the help of port agents in the field.

This comes after President Donald Trump shut down ports of entry to deal with the crisis. Continue reading “Border patrol agent on crisis: It’s so far out of hand you guys wouldn’t believe it if you saw it”

A woman and her daughter were shopping at a mall in West Virginia when things took a terrible turn. And if the mother had not been armed and willing to use her firearm, there’s no telling how badly this story would have ended.

Here’s what happened.

DENVER (Reuters) – The Colorado legislature on Monday passed a “red flag” bill that would allow those deemed a threat to have their firearms seized, despite opposition by most of the state’s sheriffs and threats of legal challenges.

Both chambers of the Democratic-controlled General Assembly approved the measure, sending it to the desk of Governor Jared Polis, also a Democrat, who has indicated his support for the measure.  Continue reading “Colorado passes bill to seize guns from people deemed threat to self, others”

Four years into the Saudi War in Yemen, the invasion has turned the poorest country in the Middle East into one constantly on the brink of humanitarian catastrophe. This is in no small part driven by a Saudi naval blockade, which has severely limited food imports.

In the past year, food imports were down some 60% from pre-war levels. Given that Yemen, before the war, had to import about 90% of its food, there isn’t exactly a way for locals to get around this lack of imports.  Continue reading “Yemen’s Food Prices Soar as Saudi Blockade Limits Imports”

Venezuela is home to the largest oil deposits in the world, which makes the political stakes involved much higher than they would be otherwise. Enter Juan Guaidó, Washington’s puppet leader in Caracas, who will be attempting to rally the country against legitimate (i.e., democratically elected by the people) President Nicolas Maduro next month.

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó has announced that April 6 will kick off a nationwide “tactical actions” as part of the so-called Operation Freedom protests, which are designed to oust President Nicolas Maduro.  Continue reading “Is Washington Preparing the Groundwork for a Maidan Scenario in Venezuela?”

HOUSTON (Reuters) – U.S. investigators hope this week for the first time to enter the site of a massive fuel fire and chemical spill outside Houston to begin the hunt for a cause and to determine whether the operator followed safety regulations.

The blaze, at Mitsui & Co’s Intercontinental Terminals Co (ITC) storage facility in Deer Park, Texas, began March 17 and released toxic chemicals into the air and nearby waterways. Shipping along the largest oil port in the United States remained disrupted on Monday, as did operations at two nearby refineries.  Continue reading “U.S. investigators to begin hunt for cause of Texas petrochemical disaster”

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The country’s largest electric company was ordered Monday to excavate coal ash from all of its North Carolina power plant sites, slashing the risk of toxic chemicals leaking into water supplies but potentially adding billions of dollars to the costs consumers pay.

Duke Energy Corp. must remove the residue left after decades of burning coal to produce electricity, North Carolina’s environmental agency said. The company had proposed covering some storage pits with a waterproof cap, saying that would prevent rain from passing through and carrying chemicals through the unlined bottoms and would provide a quicker and cheaper option.  Continue reading “North Carolina orders Duke Energy to excavate all coal ash”

Our predicament is simple to describe.

Since the dawn of civilization, powerful individuals have controlled the stories people tell themselves about who they are, who’s in charge, how a good citizen behaves, what groups should be loved, what groups should be hated, and what’s really going on in the world. When you study what we call history, you’re mostly just reading the ancient proto-propaganda of whatever kingdom happened to win the last war during that period of time. When you study what we call religion, you’re mostly reading stories that were advanced by ancient governments explaining why the people should be meek, forgiving taxpayers instead of rising up and killing their wealthy exploiters.  Continue reading “People Will Never, Ever Rebel As Long As They’re Successfully Propagandized”

Hollywood has a clever way of distorting our perspective on history, and a great example of this is Western film – a movie genre we’ve all come to love. Cattle rustlers, guns blazing, outlaws running loose, and vigilantes dishing out vengeance indiscriminately. These scenes have become more synonymous with the American Frontier than Winchester and their “Cartridge That Won the West.” But these fictional tales have produced more than entertainment for over a century; they’ve also contributed to an ongoing, subtle push for gun control, all while making Hollywood millions.  Continue reading “The American Old West: How Hollywood Made It “Wild” to Make Money & Advance Gun Control”

People with military-style semi-automatic (MSSA) weapons and assault rifles have until the end of September to hand them over to police or face five years’ jail.

And Police Minister Stuart Nash has issued a stern warning to gangs who have said they will keep their MSSAs: hand them in or face a new penalty of up to five years’ jail.

The Arms (Prohibited Firearms, Magazines and Parts) Amendment Bill has been introduced to Parliament and will have its first reading tomorrow, Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters and Nash announced today.  Continue reading “New Zealand: Government to gangs: Hand in your military-style semi-automatics or face 5 years’ jail”

Laughable Larry Kudlow, as high priest of the Laffer Curve, has long been servant of “King Dollar,” as Larry has often reverently referred to US currency. The Laffer Curve is the central creed of trickle-down economics. It’s a bell-curve that demonstrates how lowering tax rates actually increases tax revenue to a certain point by stimulating the economy and then, beyond that point, lowering taxes lowers tax revenue. (If the latter were not true, the highest tax revenue would come in at a tax rate of zero, which is ludicrous. So, logically, you know at some point tax-rate reductions start to result in diminishing returns for revenue.)  Continue reading “The Two Stooges of Finance: Larry and Moore”

Vallejo, CA — Willie McCoy was an aspiring 20-year-old rapper whose life was brought to a tragic end in February when six police officers decided to kill him as he slept in his car in the parking lot of a Taco Bell. Now, after nearly two months, police have released the body camera showing this execution.

As the SF Chronicle notes, in a rare move, the department released not only raw footage of the incident, but also edited takes of the shooting, complete with subtitles, a slow-motion view of crucial moments and play-by-play text that include an officer’s version of events not readily seen in the video.  Continue reading “6 Cops Surround Man Sleeping at Taco Bell—Execute Him in Firing Squad Fashion”
