This is a recipe handed down to me by my mom. It’s been in my family since I was a kid (back when dirt was new). I’ve tweaked it slightly to my own satisfaction, but will also provide the original specs. I’ve yet to come across a store-bought cookie that equals them.
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/3 cup cocoa
- 3 cups oatmeal (1 minute ONLY)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (creamy)
- 1/2 cup milk (or 1/2 & 1/2)
- 1 stick butter (1/4 lb)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract Continue reading “Awesome No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies”
Even after months of stories exposing the breadth and depth of National Security Agency (NSA) spying on Americans’ communications, the Obama administration insists federal courts should stop hearing cases challenging the agency’s warrantless surveillance on grounds that they might expose the existence of this spying.
Last week, federal lawyers asked a judge, Jeffrey S. White, in Northern California to dismiss cases that could lead to a ruling on the constitutionality of warrantless surveillance programs authorized during the George W. Bush administration. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a movement permit to S. Claus to “allow reindeer to enter and exit the United States between the hours of 6 PM December 24, 2013 and 6 AM December 25, 2013, through or over any northern border port.”
Since this is a government agency, things are not quite that simple: Continue reading “USDA allows Santa’s reindeer to enter the country”

Many of us reading this carry firearms on a daily basis, but how many are maintaining situational awareness in their daily routine? This question is aimed primarily towards those of us who have chosen to accept the responsibility of being armed, but it also applies to situations where you’re not armed (either by choice or due to local laws & other prohibitions).
[In September] in Nairobi, we saw graphic proof of what a determined group of attackers is capable of. Depending on varying news reports, claims are that three of the al-Shabab terrorists were recruited from the United States and possibly another three (or more) were Europeans (take that with a grain of salt until it is confirmed one way or the other). Continue reading “Where’s Your Mind At?”Over the last year or so we have seen an increase in two somewhat related things in the rights and the gun communities. The first one being attacks on liberty, rights, and American values by so called “second amendment supporters”. The second being an increase in protests involving the carrying and display of firearms. I think these things are somewhat related.
Lets first address the what American values are. Our Constitution guarantees us a republican form of government, Article 4 Section 4. A republican form of government is a form of representatives that are supposed to represent those who elect him, or her. But we live not only in a republic, but a constitutional republic. This means that our representatives are bound by law to not infringe on our individual liberties in certain ways, or they are ruled by law. Continue reading “An Attack On American Values”

A shoplifter resisting arrest and knocking over a display case inside Roosevelt Field Mall on Tuesday sparked a shooting scare during one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Nassau County police said.
Authorities confirm that at about 1:15 p.m. Christmas Eve, a shoplifter scuffling with security guards knocked over a perfume display case inside Macy’s, which caused a loud noise that scared last-minute Christmas shoppers into believing a gunman was opening fire. A naturalist named Casey Anderson stumbled across two grizzly bear cubs nestled beside their dead mother in the wild mountains of Alaska. Casey couldn’t just leave these little guys to die in the wilderness, so he made the brave decision to take them with him. He trains animals for a living, so he knew he would be able to give these cubs a real shot. That simple decision, borne out of grief, turned into one of the most unique and adorable rehabilitation stories we have ever laid eyes on.
