LOS ANGELES (AP) — The gunman who opened fire on a California food festival killed himself after officers shot him multiple times, officials said Friday, correcting previous police accounts that the officers fired the fatal bullet.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The use of force by police to subdue Markeith Loyd — the fugitive suspected of shooting an Orlando police officer to death — was justified, according to Phil Archer, state attorney for Brevard and Seminole counties in Florida.

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) — A gunman described as a disgruntled Walmart employee fatally shot two co-workers and wounded a police officer before he was shot and arrested Tuesday at a Walmart store in northern Mississippi, authorities said.

Southaven Police Chief Macon Moore said the man, whom he did not name, shot a Southaven police officer, who was protected by a bulletproof vest and suffered minor injuries. Police say someone got out of a car and opened fire on a 68-year-old man who was approaching a synagogue near Miami.

Miami-Dade police detective Alvaro Zabaleta tells news outlets someone got out of a black Chevrolet Impala around 6:30 p.m. Sunday and shot the man multiple times in the legs near the front door of the Young Israel of Greater Miami Temple. Santino William Legan has been identified as the 19-year-old suspect accused of killing three people and wounding several others in a mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, according to CBS News. The shooting Sunday night on the final day of the annual charity event at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy left three dead, 12 injured and the suspected shooter, Legan, killed by police. HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — A man who was seen “pumping a gun” in a busy tourist area in Arkansas was critically wounded in a shootout with police, authorities said.

Hot Springs police said several people called 911 to report a man walking along Bathhouse Row while carrying a long gun and threatening bystanders on Sunday. GILROY, Calif. (AP) — A gunman cut through a fence to avoid security and opened fire at Northern California’s popular Gilroy Garlic Festival, killing three and wounding at least 15 before police fatally shot him as terrified people and performers ran for cover.

Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said the gunman was armed with a rifle and sneaked in through a fence that borders a parking lot next to a creek.
