The Virginia state legislature passed a package of gun control bills Thursday, more than a week after thousands of the legislation’s armed opponents marched through Richmond.

Virginia’s House of Delegates approved seven pieces of legislation aimed at curbing gun violence, including universal background checks, a monthly limit on handgun purchases and “a red flag” law, which would give judges and police officers the authority to remove a weapon from an individual if they pose a threat. A worker remains missing after a large explosion at an apparent industrial building in Houston early Friday scattered debris across the area, shattered windows and sent another person to the hospital.

At about 4:30 a.m., many people reported hearing a loud explosion and felt buildings shake in the Northwest Houston neighborhood. (Reuters) – Twenty U.S. states sued the Trump administration on Thursday to block what they called its latest effort to allow blueprints for making guns from 3-D printers to be released on the internet, threatening a proliferation of “ghost guns” that spread violence.

Baltimore’s state’s attorney, Marilyn Mosby, took aim at the city’s police union Saturday after union officials condemned a violent attack Friday night against a city police officer.

Mosby accused the police union of “fanning the very flames they then call on me to put out,” saying union officials responded to the violent attack with “inappropriate political rhetoric.”

A video posted on social media shows a Baltimore police sergeant wrestling on the ground late Friday with a suspect who allegedly spat in the sergeant’s face.
