Milwaukee, WI — Terrill Thomas’ life gradually slipped away as he languished behind the bars of a solitary confinement cell begging guards for water after they shut it off — a request repeated vociferously by fellow inmates nearby — but for at least six days, at least ten jailers ignored his cries for the most basic human need.

“Prisoners confined near Terrill Thomas’s cell overheard his cries for water for days,” court documents state, “yet correctional, medical and psychological personnel ignored those cries and never gave Terrill Thomas water, presumably as some misguided form of punishment or retribution for the alleged crimes that brought him to the justice facility.”   Continue reading “‘Hero’ Sheriff Clarke Sued for Dehydrating Man to Death as He Begged for Water”

In a statement, the department’s Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) said the funds would be granted on Wednesday and distributed by officials in Florida, where 49 people were killed at a gay nightclub in Orlando in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.  Continue reading “U.S. gives Florida nightclub shooting victims nearly $8.5 million”

A group of competitors will make the trip to Russia to compete on a “Hunger Games” themed television show, where fighting, rape, and murder are allowed.

According to the Siberian Times, the show, titled “Game2: Winter,” will film on a Siberian Island in the Ob River. The presumably graphic show will air on the internet.

The show’s primary objective is to stay alive until the first of April 2018. To that end, the show’s producers have instituted a simple rule: Everything is allowed. To begin with, Donald Trump is not an outsider, he’s an insider, and has been for a long time. He’s a New York City multi-billionaire with numerous business and personal contacts in industry, high finance and government at all levels. That has been true for decades, even before he ran for political office.   Continue reading “You’re Being Played: Trump Is The Pied Piper”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration in its final year in office spent a record $36.2 million on legal costs defending its refusal to turn over federal records under the Freedom of Information Act, according to an Associated Press analysis of new U.S. data that also showed poor performance in other categories measuring transparency in government.

For a second consecutive year, the Obama administration set a record for times federal employees told citizens, journalists and others that despite searching they couldn’t find a single page of files that were requested.   Continue reading “Obama’s final year: US spent $36 million in records lawsuits”

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Donald Trump promised to bring back coal jobs, but even the country’s third-largest coal producer appears to be hedging its bets on a comeback. Kentucky is on the cusp of doing what was once unthinkable: opening the door to nuclear power.

The Republican-controlled state legislature is close to lifting its decades-long moratorium on nuclear energy in a state that has been culturally and economically dominated by coal. Politicians from both parties have promised for years to revive the struggling coal industry, with Trump famously billing himself as “the last shot for miners.” But as the coal industry continues its slide, even Republican lawmakers are acknowledging a need for alternatives.   Continue reading “In Ky. coal country, a potential embrace of nuclear power”

NEW YORK (AP) — A sloppy late-season storm lashed the Northeast with sleet and more than a foot of snow in some places Monday, paralyzing much of the Washington-to-Boston corridor after a remarkably mild February had lulled people into thinking the worst of winter was over.

The powerful nor’easter grounded more than 5,000 flights, knocked out power to over 100,000 customers from Virginia to Pennsylvania, closed schools in cities big and small and prompted dire warnings to stay off the roads.   Continue reading “Storm clobbers the Northeast after weeks of mild weather”
