SAN FRANCISCO (CN) – The city of Oakland cannot dodge potential liability over a couple’s claims of an attempted home invasion and assault by two off-duty police officers, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

Olga and Nemesio Cortez sued Oakland and five police officers in October 2016, claiming police tried to make them change their story to protect two drunk, off-duty officers who assaulted them, tried to break into their home, and threatened them with a real or simulated gun underneath a shirt.   Continue reading “Oakland Can’t Dodge Claims of Off-Duty Officers’ Misdeeds”

The executive order President Trump is expected to sign Thursday will be focused on the Johnson Amendment and allow non-profit organizations to deny certain health coverage for religious reasons, administration sources told Fox News Wednesday.

The three main points of the executive order, according to a senior White House official, will declare “that it is the policy of the administration to protect and vigorously promote religious liberty,” direct the IRS “to exercise maxim enforcement of discretion to alleviate the burden of the Johnson Amendment,” and provide “regulatory relief for religious objectors to Obamacare’s burdensome preventive services mandate.”    Continue reading “Trump executive order on religious liberty to focus on Johnson Amendment, sources say”

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will aim to move past the rocky start to their working relationship when they meet for the first time and commemorate the 75th anniversary of an important World War II naval battle.

Trump and Turnbull were meeting Thursday in New York City, a trip that will also mark Trump’s first visit home since he left in January to be sworn in as president. Trump’s homecoming was expected to be unfriendly, however, with multiple protests planned against the Republican president in the heavily Democratic metropolis.   Continue reading “Trump to meet Australian PM on 1st presidential trip to NYC”

WASHINGTON (AP) — As one justice settles into his new job at the Supreme Court, is another about to leave? Eighty-year-old Justice Anthony Kennedy is so far refusing to comment on speculation that he may soon retire after 29 years on the court.

But that hasn’t stopped President Donald Trump and, obliquely, the Republican senator in charge of high court confirmation hearings from weighing in on the prospect that Kennedy could step down as soon as this spring or summer. If not this year, several former law clerks said they would not be surprised to see the justice retire in 2018.   Continue reading “Rumors surround Justice Kennedy exit, but he’s not talking”

It’s a video that brings back memories of Carrie Underwood bringing out the Louisville Slugger, smashing out head lights. In this case it started with a shovel to the windshield.

We were able to get Barbara Lowery, the woman behind the smashing on the phone.

“I prayed about it first, and I slept on it, and I decided it wasn’t a good idea. Then I saw a shovel,” Lowery said.   Continue reading “Cullman woman stomps out car windshield, arrested for disorderly conduct”

I had a really nice slingshot as a kid. Not a Y-shaped stick with a rubber band on it, but a seriously legit metal slingshot with an arm brace and everything. But it had nothing on the Assolar SS-12, which I just saw on The Gadgeteer.

Look at this thing!   Continue reading “Apparently slingshots are really cool now and nobody told me”

Flint, MI — By now, nearly everyone knows multiple government officials in Michigan knowingly poisoned thousands of men, women, and children after the city switched its municipal water source from the Detroit water system to the Flint River. Now, however, as if poisoning residents and their children weren’t enough, the city of Flint is threatening to take people’s homes for refusing to pay for the tainted water.

Although Flint — which blew wide open a year ago — is largely out of the headlines, the crisis is still unfolding. Residents are still unable to drink the water, leaving most families to rely on bottled water for everything from brushing their teeth to cooking and bathing.  Continue reading “Flint Threatens to Kick 8,000 Families Out of Their Homes if They Don’t Pay for Poison Water”

Earlier this morning we reported that according to Korea Times, China had allegedly sent North Korea what amount to a final warning over its military provocations. The rumor cited the May issue of Hong Kong monthly news outlet Dong Xiang. It said a Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs junior minister invited Park Myung-ho, an official of North Korea, for a meeting. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting and asked his junior to read aloud the warning to the North over the nuclear test. The memorandum mentioned that China will condemn strongly, pull back on all economic cooperation and even blockade North Korea if it conducted the test.   Continue reading “North Korea Threatens China With “Grave Consequences” Over “Betrayal””

The Republicans are giving Obamacare repeal another try, and this time they may succeed.

Just a few hours after we reported that “Obamacare repeal suddenly looks possible” when two key Republicans – Fred Upton and Billy Long  – flipped and decided to support the GOP healthcare bill, leading to immediate speculation the bill has enough support, the WSJ reported that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters Wednesday evening the House will vote on Thursday on the Republican bill to replace most of Obamacare: “we will be voting on the health-care bill tomorrow because we have enough votes.”   Continue reading ““We Have Enough Votes”: House To Vote Thursday To Repeal Obamacare”

The University of California, Berkeley paid police half a million dollars in overtime last Thursday to deal with the threat created by leftists opposed to letting conservative author Ann Coulter speak — even though she never did.

Coulter pulled out of her planned speech after the sponsoring organizations dropped the event due to security concerns. The university had insisted that Coulter speak at dates and times when there would be fewer students on campus, and Coulter refused, citing free speech principles. The campus, which prided itself on being the home of the Free Speech Movement in the 1960s, has become dangerous for conservatives, who face mob violence when expressing their views.   Continue reading “Coulter’s Non-Speech Cost Berkeley Half Million Dollars to Pay Cops”

Oregonians worried about a loved one committing suicide or hurting someone with a gun should have legal recourse to get firearms out of that person’s hands.

At least that’s the message Oregon senators sent when they voted through a controversial gun-control bill largely along party lines Monday.

Senate Bill 719, cosponsored by Sens. Brian Boquist, R-Dallas, and Ginny Burdick, D-Portland, passed 17-11 through the Senate and will go Tuesday to the House of Representatives for a first reading.   Continue reading “Gun-control bill passes through Oregon Senate”

We have succeeded in moving close toward the Civil Unrest that can erupt into civil war. In Oregon on the Communist May Day holiday,  anti-Trump factions who are calling themselves now “anarchists” have turned violent.  They threw rocks, smoke bombs and just about anything they could at police officers during a May Day rally. Thousands more marched in other major cities around the nation on this Communist day when Russia would display its military weapons and celebrate the people working for the State.   Continue reading “Civil Unrest in Oregon – Communist Uprising is USA?”
