An election-watch group is suing Maryland over the alleged presence of noncitizens on the state’s voting rolls.

The lawsuit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, asserts that individuals who opted out of jury duty because they were not legal U.S. residents have cast ballots in at least three Maryland elections.

The Fed said it was confident the US economic recovery would continue, despite a global economic slowdown.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered military leaders to develop a plan within 15 days on how to carry out the “controlled monitoring regimen” for the approximately 4,000 troops that could be involved in the military’s Ebola operations, said Rear Adm. Pharr, TX — Trial is set to begin December 1, in the case of former Pharr police officer Erasmo Mata, Jr., accused of repeated first-degree felony sexual assaults of a child.

Britain’s Lloyds Banking Group said Tuesday it will eliminate 9,000 jobs over the next three years and shut some 200 branches in a bid to improve efficiency.

The group has been partly owned by the British taxpayer since it was rescued during the financial crisis and has been under pressure to cut costs.

Mexican authorities searching for 43 missing college students have found human remains in a new area of southern Guerrero state and are testing to see if they belong to the young men who last were seen in police custody a month ago, a government official said Monday.

Authorities came upon the new location based on statements from four people arrested early Monday, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press. An unmanned rocket headed for the International Space Station to deliver supplies exploded on launch from Wallops Island, Va., Tuesday.

The Antares rocket supplied by contractor Orbital Sciences blew up six seconds after liftoff, NASA said.

A suspected gunman is in custody as police still search for a second suspect after the shooting of two men outside a rural North Carolina courthouse Tuesday.

Gunfire broke out sometime before noon in front of the Nash County Courthouse, about 45 miles northeast of Raleigh in the agricultural town of Nashville.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday it has increased security at federal buildings across the county, citing terror threats and recent attacks in Canada and elsewhere.

The announcement was made by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, who said Federal Protective Service officers are providing the increased security.

Officials said the move was a “precautionary” step and not made in response to any specific threat. The Swiss agency that regulates new drugs said Tuesday it has approved an application for a clinical trial with an experimental Ebola vaccine at the Lausanne University Hospital.

Swissmedic said the trial will be conducted among 120 volunteer participants with support from the U.N. World Health Organization. Two men were shot and suffered what Jenkins described as non-life-threatening wounds.

Coal exports from the U.S. West Coast rose to the highest in more than a decade amid demand from Mexico and Asia, providing a market for the power-plant fuel amid lower domestic consumption.

Shipments from the western U.S. are up 35 percent to about 5 million tons through the first six months of this year, led by an almost six-fold jump in cargoes leaving San Francisco, according to the Energy Information Administration. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) said Monday it’s concerned that intellectual property pirates are being exposed to malware and other dangers.

“It is important to note that websites that traffic in infringing movies, television shows, and other copyrighted content do not harm only the rights holder.
