Untitled attachment 00016On his death bed they asked him where he wanted to be buried. His answer was, “Surprise me.”

I had forgotten that he lived to be 100, and also didn’t realize it has been over 10 years since he died.

Always enjoyed him, his movies, and his show. He touched a lot of lives during his life.

Thought you might enjoy a bit of memory touching. Enjoy and recall a neat comedian.   Continue reading “Bob Hope”

The US Navy is looking at how exoskeletons could be used at naval shipyards. Exoskeletons enable workers to operate heavyweight hand tools for longer by transferring the weight of the items from the body directly the ground.

Lockheed Martin’s FORTIS exoskeleton is totally unpowered, yet it distributes heavy weight away from human muscles via its secure and grounded construction.

Lockheed Martin claims the FORTIS exoskeleton’s lightweight ergonomic construction allows its operator to move freely in a natural and flexible way, which greatly increases a worker’s productivity.   Continue reading “US Navy tests power-free industrial exoskeletons”

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you have a tattoo. After all, nearly half of the population has decided at some point in their life that it was a good idea to permanently ink an image, or special symbol, onto their skin. Many hold no regrets when it comes to their tattoos; however, others embrace them less so with age.

But now there’s a new reason to rethink getting inked. Have you ever considered exactly what tattoo ink is made of? The ink is really pigment, and most are made of metal salts; however, some are made of plastics or vegetable dyes, and if organic, they’re usually plant-based.    Continue reading “Tattoo ink poisoning Americans”

Earlier this summer, American Special Forces attempted to rescue photojournalist James Foley and other hostages held by Islamic State militants in Syria, but the mission failed because the prisoners were not at the suspected location.

According to the Washington Post, the United States acted after six other Western hostages were previously let go by the extremist group and had been debriefed by intelligence officers. White House officials said the operation involved several dozen US commandos engaging militants in battle – one American was wounded – but that Foley and the others could not be saved.   Continue reading “US tried and failed to save Foley, other IS hostages in Syria”

Liberia Battles Spreading Ebola EpidemicThe Daily Sheeple – by Chris Carrington

The Liberian military have encircled the sprawling West Point slum in Liberian capital Monrovia, with barbed wire to keep the residents inside. The barriers appeared without warning overnight, and coupled with armed soldiers instructed to ‘shoot to kill’, and using tear gas to control increasingly angry crowds, has effectively sealed off the slum to all but the most determined escapees.

West Point borders the ocean, and the coastguard are patrolling the sewage filled waters just off the coast to make sure nobody tries to get out that way.   Continue reading “Liberian Police Using Live Rounds to Enforce Ebola Quarantine Measures on 50,000 People”

BEIRUT (AP) — The extremists of the Islamic State group have turned their social media into a theater of horror, broadcasting a stomach-turning stream of battles, bombings and beheadings to a global audience.

The strategy is aimed at terrorizing opponents at home and winning recruits abroad. But there are increasing signs of pushback — both from companies swiftly censoring objectionable content and users determined not to let it go viral.   Continue reading “Social media pushes back at militant propaganda”

SEATTLE (AP) — The location of the three bodies was revealed by the melting snow, but getting to them was another matter. They were high on a glacier at one of the most treacherous spots on Mount Rainier, an area pummeled by falling ice and rocks.

So rangers borrowed a tool from their colleagues at Denali National Park in Alaska — a mechanical claw that’s so highly specialized it hasn’t been used in years. A helicopter equipped with the device plucked the bodies of the three climbers off Mount Rainier on Tuesday, in the same area where a party of six vanished last May.   Continue reading “Bodies of 3 climbers retrieved from Mount Rainier”

There is a growing movement inside Congress and states legislatures to fight back against the Common Core State Standards Initiative, and it looks like it’s beginning to bear some fruit. Over at Reason, Robby Soave reports on a new poll showing the tide turning against the the college- and career-ready standards:

The numbers come courtesy of an Education Next poll. In 2013, 65 percent of people supported Common Core. That number fell to a slim 53 percent majority this year—much of that support coming from Democrats, who remained largely unchanged in their overall opinion. In a second grade class the teacher was telling the students that only humans could stutter and that animals couldn’t . A little girl raised her hand and waived it vigorously to get the teachers attention. The teacher stopped and asked the girl what she wanted. The little girl got up and said “I had a kitty that used to stutter”. The teacher knowing that story’s from children can sometimes be very cute said” well then why don’t you tell us the story”.

So the little girl started her story; well me and my kitty were playing in the back yard one day and the people next door had a mean old Rottweiler and he was barking and barking all the time. But that day the mean old dog started running real hard and he jumped over the fence into my backyard. Continue reading “Stuttering”
