The driver of a speeding semitrailer who allegedly caused a 28-vehicle crash which killed at least four people and injured six has appeared in court.

GUATEMALA CITY, July 11 (Reuters) – Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales will travel to Washington next week to discuss migration, and sources said he may sign an agreement declaring the Central American country a safe destination for asylum seekers.
Morales will visit President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, and “meet with U.S. Government officials to address security, migration and economic issues,” the Guatemalan government said in a statement on Twitter on Thursday. Scientists have identified a radiation leak on the wreck of a Russian nuclear submarine that sank in Arctic waters in 1989.
The Soviet-era Komsomolets submarine sank off Norway’s Bear Island following a fire on board, which resulted in the loss of life of 42 of the 69 crewmen on board. Resting at a depth of 5,577 feet, the submarine’s nuclear reactor and two nuclear warheads are still on board. President Trump, speaking at the White House on Thursday, announced that he would “immediately” issue an executive order to get an accurate count of non-citizens and citizens in the United States — a measure Trump said would be “far more accurate” than relying on a citizenship question in the 2020 census.

A majority of veterans taking part in a new research study says that the cost and burden of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan outweigh any successes or progress made in either conflict.
A Pew Research Center report published Wednesday states that 64% — or almost two-thirds — of veterans polled in a new survey said the Iraq war “was not worth fighting,” and 58% said the same about the war in Afghanistan. Dubai, United Arab Emirates — Britain said Thursday that three Iranian vessels had unsuccessfully tried “to impede the passage” of a British commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz, but Tehran denied it. A statement issued by the British Ministry of Defense said a Royal Navy warship, the frigate HMS Montrose “was forced to position herself” between the Iranian vessels and the oil tanker, called the British Heritage. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will launch massive raids on Sunday targeting undocumented immigrants scheduled for deportation, The New York Times reported early Thursday, in an operation that President Trump delayed weeks ago.
