End of the American Dream – by Michael Snyder

It has gotten to the point where maybe we should just expect violent storms to hammer the Midwest every single day of the week.  Highly destructive storms ripped through the Midwest on Tuesday, it happened again on Wednesday, and the forecast calls for more powerful storms on Thursday.  This growing season has been a complete and utter nightmare for U.S. farmers, and each day it just gets even worse.  Millions of acres will not be planted at all this year, but an even bigger problem is that fact that crops are dramatically failing on tens of millions of acres that were actually planted in time.  Every major storm does even more damage, and that is why what we have witnessed so far this week has been so alarming.  Continue reading “Crops Devastated As More Ferocious Storms Pound The Midwest – “It’s Hard To Get Your Head Around Just How Bad It Is””

It remains the mystery at the heart of Boeing Co.’s 737 Max crisis: how a company renowned for meticulous design made seemingly basic software mistakes leading to a pair of deadly crashes. Longtime Boeing engineers say the effort was complicated by a push to outsource work to lower-paid contractors.

The Max software — plagued by issues that could keep the planes grounded months longer after U.S. regulators this week revealed a new flaw — was developed at a time Boeing was laying off experienced engineers and pressing suppliers to cut costs.  Continue reading “Boeing increasingly relied on outsourced $9-an-hour engineers to test software”

I was running errands today when I heard the news on the radio that a “Salt Lake City man” had been arrested in the murder of missing college student 23-year-old University of Utah senior MacKenzie Lueck.

Hundreds of truck drivers – many from the logging industry – reportedly descended on the Oregon Capitol on Thursday to protest emissions control legislation in the state’s Senate.

The truckers were protesting a cap-and-trade bill, House Bill 2020, that would place a cap on greenhouse gas emissions, and businesses that produce more pollution would be required to purchase tradable “credits” or “allowances” for every ton of greenhouse gas they emit.  Continue reading “Hundreds of truckers descend on Oregon Capitol to protest cap-and-trade emissions bill”

Since President Trump escalated the trade war last month by slapping a 25% tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods, and is on the verge of taxing the remainder, Beijing has spawned nationalist sentiment across the country that has left many Chinese consumers shunning American products, reported Reuters.

According to a new poll conducted by London-based advisory firm Brunswick, which surveyed 1,000 Chinese consumers, 56% of respondents said they had avoided American products, while 68% said their impression of American firms has become increasingly negative.  Continue reading “Chinese Consumers Shun All American Products As Nationalism Soars”

Since 2015, Yemen’s Customs and Consumer Protection has had to either send back or seize over 24,000 tons of aid determined unfit for consumption sent from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). Among the “aid” included 15,000 tons of supplementary food for pregnant women and medicine.

On November 6, Yemen’s Port Authority rejected and sent back a vessel from the World Food Program containing 10,000 tons of white wheat. After inspection, authorities noticed the wheat was infested with live insects. A similar incident occurred in February when authorities inspected a WFP shipment containing 96,000 bags wheat was not stamped with an expiration or production date.  Continue reading “UN Sent 24,000 Tons of Infested and Rotten “Aid” to Starving Yemenis”
