Riot police have clashed with protesters as crowds rallied against police brutality in several French cities after the death of an ecology protester, apparently caused by a police stun grenade.

Following the death of 21-year-old ecology protester Rémi Fraisse, rallies took place in Nantes, Toulouse, Lille, Bordeaux and Avignon on Saturday.

The Nantes and Toulouse demos turned violent, with masked and hooded protesters throwing projectiles and tearing down street signs. Security forces retaliated by firing tear gas and rubber bullets at the crowds.   Continue reading “Violent clashes in France after protester killed ‘by police grenade’”

CHICAGO (AP) — The tightrope is waiting for Nik Wallenda in Chicago.

The 35-year-old high-wire artist — great-grandson of Karl Wallenda of the famous Flying Wallendas circus family — plans to perform two nail-biting walks that will be televised Sunday to millions of viewers around the world.

The Discovery Channel will use a 10-second delay for the broadcast, allowing producers to cut away if Wallenda falls. He plans to perform the walks without a net or harness. The daredevil’s challenge starts just after sunset when the skyscrapers up and down the Chicago River will be lit up and sparkling. First, he will walk uphill at a 15-degree angle from the Marina City west tower to the top of a skyscraper on the other side of the river. Next, he’ll walk blindfolded between the two Marina City towers — Chicago landmarks with Hollywood credits.   Continue reading “Daredevil set for Chicago skyscraper crossings”

In May 1938, when Hitler announced his intention to invade Czechoslovakia, the German General Staff were alarmed. They were afraid world war  would destroy Germany. They decided to place Hitler in a mental asylum.

All they needed was confirmation from England that it would assist Czechoslovakia. The British dithered. Instead of taking a stand, they sabotaged  Germany’s resistance to the Nazi plague.

Ludwig Beck, the Chief of the German General Staff observed: “Through yielding to Hitler, the British government will lose its two main allies here, the General Staff and the German people.” Continue reading “British Saved Hitler from German Army Coup”

They call it “O Block.”

It’s a notorious stretch of South Side real estate known for violence.

On maps, it’s the 6400 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. But it’s just O Block to people there and in frequent references to the street in the blood-drenched lyrics of Chief Keef and other Chicago rappers.    Continue reading “The most dangerous block in Chicago”

The New York Times mocked an NRA ad that shows a rape victim speaking up for her right to bear arms for self-defense. The ad features Kimberly Weeks–a “survivor of violent crime”–telling gun control proponent Michael Bloomberg that he “[does] not have the right to tell [her] how to defend [her] life.”

According to the NYT, this ad is illustrative of the NRA’s “expert use of fear” to “[put] guns in nervous hands.”    Continue reading “New York Times Mocks NRA Ad in Which Rape Victim Advocates Self-Defense”

Imagine what happens when electricity is cut off nationwide in a country of 160 million people. In Bangladesh, everyday life was brought to a standstill on Saturday as factories, hospitals, and homes plunged into darkness or had to rely on generators.

Even the prime minister’s official residence was left with no electricity, as the small but extremely densely populated South Asian country experienced one of the worst blackouts in world’s recent history.   Continue reading “Total darkness: Country-wide blackout in Bangladesh as power grid collapses”

This morning my twelve year old daughter and I tried to fly to Salt Lake City from Phoenix for a special event of a loved one. We had to be there by 1:00 pm in order to be a part of the occasion. Everything was going as planned until we came to the Gate B check station and the first TSA agent looked at our boarding passes. He seemed a bit alarmed and asked me if my name was Ammon, I told him yes, he then circled my name and sent me down the line. I could tell there was suspicion but thought it may be because my daughter was a minor, or because my name is unusual and sometimes taken as Arabic.   Continue reading “Bundy Family Treated as Terror Suspects by TSA”

If you think anything is going to change for the better after Republicans take control of the Senate, you might have come down with a severe case of stupidity. Just like the Democrats before them, the new crop will answer to the same Wall Street masters.

From Bloomberg:

Most of America isn’t interested in next week’s elections. Wall Street is an exception. Continue reading “Wall Street Spends Record Sum in Midterm Election (Betting on Republican Puppets This Time)”

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you. Luke 17:6

Abraham had waited 20 years for the son God had promised him. He and Sarah even had a son with the help of a surrogate mother, but the Lord had told him Ishmael was not the son He had promised.  Finally Isaac was born, the one through whom God would bless all mankind (Genesis 21:12).  But some years later, before any of these blessings came to pass, God directed Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering. Though heart broken, Abraham took Isaac to the place the Lord had picked out, built an altar there and placed his son upon it (Genesis 22:1-10).   Continue reading “Grounded In Reason … The Four Factors Of Faith”
