A man armed with a hunting knife stabbed a woman to death Saturday inside a public library in Massachusetts, authorities said.
When police arrived, they found that an elderly man also had been stabbed, Boston’s Fox 25 reported.

A billionaire technology tycoon wants to lock the public out of a stretch of Californian beach his $32.5million mega-mansion sits on so he can have it to himself.
Sun Microsystems co-founder, Vinod Khosla, wants to keep all the sun to himself along Martins Beach near Half Moon Bay where his estate is located.

In the wake of the Parkland, Fla. school shootings last week, Democrats in the Maine Legislature are hoping to introduce a number of last-minute gun control bills next week, including a ban on “bump stocks,” devices that are used to boost the performance of semiautomatic rifles. However, one Republican leader says it’s too late in the session to take up such major legislation.
Leaders from both parties will meet next Tuesday to decide which, if any “after deadline” bills they will allow for consideration this session. In addition to the bump stock ban, House Speaker Sara Gideon and some fellow democrats are also drafting a proposed ban on high capacity ammunition magazines, an improved background check process and a proposal to raise the age to buy a firearm to 21. For decades gun control has been the third rail of Vermont politics — but almost overnight that appears to have changed — and recent events in Vermont and beyond have put gun legislation on a fast track in Montpelier.
Republican Gov. Phil Scott had been one of the most ardent opponents of new gun laws in Vermont. Raising rent prices and low wages have resulted in thousands of people across the city of Los Angeles becoming homeless, many of them now living in cars and RVs if they were able to keep it together that well.
According to the most recent counts by the KPCC, there are at least 7,000 people live in their cars in Los Angeles.

Organizers of a rally against mass shootings planned for next month in Washington are expecting up to 500,000 attendees, according to an event permit application.
The application filed this week with the National Park Service indicates the “March for Our Lives” will be March 24, although a location hasn’t been determined. The rally, organized by survivors of last week’s school massacre in Parkland, Fla., will have “sister marches” in other major cities, organizers said. A woman suspected of ramming her vehicle into a White House security barrier on Friday afternoon has been taken into custody and charged with multiple criminal charges, according to the U.S. Secret Service and local authorities. A law enforcement source identified to CBS News the woman arrested in connection with ramming of the barricade at the White House today as Jessica Ford.
The White House went on lockdown Friday afternoon when the suspect allegedly “intentionally drove a white can into a security barrier near the White House,” as the U.S. Secret Service described the incident late Friday. A Utah-based company that manufactures commercial explosives pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to failing to report a large-scale ammonia discharge from its plant just outside St. Helens.
Dyno Nobel Inc., through its senior vice president, admitted to releasing more than six tons of anhydrous ammonia vapor into the air from its St. Helens-area facility over a three-day period starting on July 30, 2015. Update: Amid public demands for transparency, the Broward Police have released the full list of 23 calls for service to the home of attacker Nikolas Cruz, in a desperate bid to deflect criticism over handling the Parkland school shooting. The final call, however, just like the transcript from the January 5 call discussed below, shows that serious concerns were not acted on.
“In the interest of full transparency, we are making available the list of all 23 calls for service at the Cruz home,” the sheriff’s office said in a Friday tweet. “18 involved Nikolas Cruz. None appeared arrestable under Florida law.
