Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is sounding the alarm to his colleagues Senate-wide, warning them and the American public with a “critical alert” published Sunday evening that voting for the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) deal that would set up the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal with Asian countries is fraught with problems and concerns.

“Congress has the responsibility to ensure that any international trade agreement entered into by the United States must serve the national interest, not merely the interests of those crafting the proposal in secret,” Continue reading “‘Critical Alert’: Jeff Sessions Warns America Against Potentially Disastrous Obama Trade Deal”

Police gather at North Ave and Pennsylvania Ave in Baltimore, Maryland (Reuters / Eric Thayer)RT

Tensions are high in the North West of Baltimore following a gun shot. Eyewitnesses say police fired at a man. Officers claim it was the man’s gun that fired when he dropped it.

Reports surfaced at around 2:45 ET that a man was shot close to the intersection of Pennsylvania and North avenues near the epicenter of where protests have occurred in the days since the arrest and death last month of Freddie Gray, a young black man.   Continue reading “Conflicting reports after gun fired in Baltimore, tensions at site of protests”

Recently, Congressman Thomas Massie came to speak at the University of Cincinnati. He was the keynote speaker for the Young American for Liberty’s Ohio State conference. Massie gave an eye opening speech on how the House of Representatives works. One of his most revealing stories centered around his 500-yard run that he frequently makes from his office to the House floor.

For those that are not aware, Congress passes a lot of bills! In the 112th Congress, there were 561 bills that passed in one year. If we do some basic math, Congress is in session for 132 days and in that time they pass 561 bills, meaning they are passing roughly 4 bills a day. An example of one of these bills is the 600-page Highway Flood Student Loan bill that was given to the Senate the day of the vote. On top of that the bill had 23 additional amendments.   Continue reading “Congressman Massie’s 500-Yard Run That is Driving Congress Crazy”

A new young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to help the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand. He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript.

So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up. In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.   Continue reading “The missing R”

One of my favorite parts of spring is scrubbing down the entire house, throwing open the windows so the breeze can come through, and hanging rugs and bedding outside.  Maybe it’s weird but I just love spring cleaning. However, what I don’t love is the expensive, chemical-laden cleaning products from the store.  That’s why I spend some time making my own, from simple, non-toxic ingredients. I order most of my basic supplies.

Many of the chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis never leave our bodies, but accumulate in fat and bone marrow.  There’s little oversight and testing on those chemicals.  We’re living in a toxic civilization that seems sparkling clean and sanitary, but is actually poisoning us.   Continue reading “The Cheapskate’s Guide to Making Cleaning Products That Won’t Kill You”

If you were holding onto the faint hope that federal election campaigns were ever going to be anything but “buy your way into office” spending sprees, you may as well kiss it goodbye. The Federal Election Committee’s head has just admitted her agency is completely powerless to do the one thing it’s supposed to be doing.

The leader of the Federal Election Commission, the agency charged with regulating the way political money is raised and spent, says she has largely given up hope of reining in abuses in the 2016 presidential campaign, which could generate a record $10 billion in spending. When armed terrorists attacked Charlie Hebdo headquarters over Muhammad cartoons on January 7, unarmed police officers were forced to flee for their lives. When armed men attacked people gathered in Garland, Texas, on May 3 over Prophet Muhammad cartoons, armed police cut them down — and the Daily Mail reported that the body of one was left lying the street while police searched for explosives.

The difference between Garland and Paris can be summed up in one word: guns.   Continue reading “Guns: The Difference Between Garland And Paris”

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi government forces drove the Islamic State group out of Abu Mustafa’s hometown of Tikrit over a month ago, but he has yet to return, fearing the Shiite militias that now patrol its bombed and battered streets.

The well-off businessman, who fled to Iraq’s relatively secure Kurdish region before the operation began, has heard of widespread looting and vandalism, including of his own property. And he’s heard that the militiamen are exacting revenge on Sunnis like himself, viewing them as sympathizers of the extremist group.   Continue reading “Iraqi city still a ghost town a month after defeat of IS”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of sex-related crimes occurring in U.S. military communities is far greater than the Defense Department has publicly reported, a U.S. senator said Monday in a scathing critique that asserts the Pentagon has refused to provide her information about sexual assaults at several major bases.

The spouses of service members and civilian women who live or work near military facilities are especially vulnerable to being sexually assaulted, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said in a report. Yet they “remain in the shadows” because neither is counted in surveys conducted by the Defense Department to determine the prevalence of sexual assaults within the ranks, the report said.   Continue reading “Pentagon accused of withholding sex crimes info”
