Zero Hedge – by Tyler Durden

It all started with a Pentagon tweet showing a before and after picture of a “modular oil refinery” used by ISIS:

By “modular” the Department of Defense meant “mobile.” CNN had more:

U.S. and coalition warplanes pounded ISIS positions in eastern Syria on Wednesday, targeting what a Pentagon official described as mobile oil refineries being used by the so-called Islamic State terror group to help finance its operations. Of all the foolish lies that have been excreted by the Obama Administration, a recent remark by Jeh Johnson, the left-wing fundraiser now in charge of our security, takes the prize as the most staggeringly moronic:

“From my homeland security perspective, I want people who are living in this country undocumented to come forward, to get on the books, and subject themselves to a background check so that I can know who they are and whether it’s the current DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program or a path to citizenship – whether it’s deferred action or earned path to citizenship. From my homeland security perspective, I want people to come forward.”

Dennis Arndt of Manawa with the monster 780-pound black bear he shot Sept. 21, 2014 near Ogdensburg.Post Crescent – by Patrick Durkin

– With sunset approaching Sept. 21 and time running out on days he could devote to hunting a giant Waupaca County black bear, Dennis Arndt decided to try something radical to coax the old boar out of hiding.

Arndt, 35, of rural Manawa, gambled that the bear was holed up in a nearby cornfield, probably within hearing of his ground blind. Trail camera photos proved the bear had visited the bait site recently in daylight, so when it didn’t appear by early evening, Arndt assumed the bear knew he was waiting nearby.   Continue reading “Manawa’s Arndt takes 780-pound ‘bear of a lifetime’”

DELAWARE WATER GAP, Pa. (AP) — Julie Martin spots an immature hemlock tree and crawls underneath it. Though she’s only a few feet away from the trail, Martin remains motionless – and invisible.

The point of this exercise? To show how very easy it is to hide in the forest.

Ambush suspect Eric Frein has managed to elude hundreds of law enforcement officials looking for him 20 miles away in the thick woods of northeastern Pennsylvania, taking advantage of the difficult terrain to keep them at bay two weeks after the late-night shooting outside a rural barracks that killed one trooper and injured another.   Continue reading “Ambush suspect manhunt focused on abandoned hotel”

Common Dreams – by Nadia Prupis

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson on Thursday issued a video apology to the family of Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager who was killed by Officer Darren Wilson on August 9, while continuing to ignore residents’ repeated calls for his resignation.

Jackson also walked briefly on Thursday night with protesters who have been marching against police brutality—and demanding Wilson’s arrest—for more than six weeks. Despite his presence at the demonstration, however, several protesters were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning. Video footage of the march shows officers violently placing at least one woman in custody who had been marching side by side with Jackson before he was led away by a police escort.
