WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. National Security Agency collected 534 million records of phone calls and text messages of Americans last year, more than triple gathered in 2016, a U.S. intelligence agency report released on Friday said.

The sharp increase from 151 million occurred during the second full year of a new surveillance system established at the spy agency after U.S. lawmakers passed a law in 2015 that sought to limit its ability to collect such records in bulk.   Continue reading “Spy agency NSA triples collection of U.S. phone records: official report”

With Germany unsure about how to mark 200 years since Karl Marx was born, a giant bronze statue of the philosopher given by China to the town of his birth is adding to the unease.

The small town of Trier near Luxembourg in western Germany eventually decided to accept the 4.5m (15ft) statue created by China’s most famous sculptor – but only after years of wrangling over whether taking it would appear to condone rights abuses in China.   Continue reading “Karl Marx statue from China adds to German angst”

After Rudy Giuliani called Jared Kushner “disposable” in his off-the-rails interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity earlier this week, the president’s son-in-law watched the clip himself to see what all the fuss was about.

Kushner — newly determined to stay in his lane and not meddle in the president’s legal strategy — decided to downplay a comment that raised eyebrows among other White House officials, instead mitigating potential tension with Giuliani by laughing it off.  Continue reading “Giuliani falls back in line”

On May 4, 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard descended on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio to quash and antiwar protest. During the protest, soldiers opened fire on an unarmed group of students—firing 67 rounds in 13 seconds—killing four and injuring nine others. To this date, not a single person has been held accountable and the government still refuses to admit that it participated in the murder of its own citizens.

As the Free Thought Project reported in 2016, Kent State is the one school shooting that the US government wants you to forget.   Continue reading “48 Years Ago Today, US Troops Massacred Students in Ohio, Covered It Up and Got Away With It”

Illegal Bump Stock Regs to go beyond Johnson, Clinton, and Obama in Anti-Gun Reach!

When campaigning, Donald Trump said he would respect and honor the Second Amendment.

Instead, he continues to push ahead on bump stock regulations which would turn 500,000 gun owners into felons.
