Before it all came crashing down, Archi Duenas’ gun-stealing scheme was relatively simple, county prosecutors wrote in a memo. He just couldn’t go on vacation.

Duenas, manager of the gun store at the Los Angeles Police Academy, had been reprimanded over the years for tardiness and sloppy record keeping, but he never took time off, according to the memo. As the store’s closing supervisor, he was there each night to lock up — and hand count the inventory.  Continue reading “How the theft of 44 firearms from an L.A. gun store exploded into an LAPD scandal”

In a high-profile verdict that will likely see liberals across the country celebrate, Travis McMichael, his father, Greg McMichael, and William “Roddie” Bryan have been convicted of murder in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery.

All three men were charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony. The verdict comes just days after the Rittenhouse verdict, which had set critics of the crimininal justice system slamming it, after the teenager was spared charges by a local jury (likely due to specific details of Rittenhouses’s case than anything). A potential ban on crude oil exports is under consideration at the White House, a Democratic Congressman told Bloomberg, adding that “The economics of it makes sense.”

Rep. Ro Khanna, chair of the environmental sub-panel of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, disagrees with analysts who have been warning that a ban on U.S. oil exports could backfire, ending up in higher prices at the pump. As was widely leaked yesterday, moments ago the White House announced that it will release 50 million barrels of crude from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve in concert with China, Japan, India and South Korea, the White House said in a statement, an unprecedented, coordinated attempt by three of the world’s largest oil consumers to tame prices that could prompt a backlash by OPEC+.

The release, which as we noted will come in the form of an SPR Volume Exchange meaning “in the years ahead” the SPR will have to replenish the release almost certainly at much higher prices, will amount to 32 million barrels, and is in line with expectations of 30-35 million; as a reminder, 18 million has already been authorized by Congress and will be sped up. During an interview aired on Thursday’s “PBS NewsHour,” Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) argued that people concerned about inflation should want the productivity boost that will come from provisions for work permits for illegal immigrants in the Build Back Better reconciliation bill.

How do you answer that?” Continue reading “Dem Rep. Escobar: If You’re Worried About Inflation, You Should Want Work Permits for Migrants in Spending Bill”

The FDA has asked a federal judge to make the public wait until the year 2076 to disclose all of the data and information it relied upon to license Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.   That is not a typo.   It wants 55 years to produce this information to the public.

President Biden’s massive $1.75 trillion spending bill would drop a component of the child tax credit program that could lead to billions in payouts to illegal immigrants.
